Recently I’ve been thinking about the complexity of our world and how impossible it is to take every factor into account. For example, I thought if I had a goal to do 3 things in a day, I thought I had to wrestle with every factor influencing that goal. People have frequently mistaken me for a Perfectionist. Perhaps a downside of being a designer and a life-long learner, I’m frequently overwhelmed by the hundreds factors that I can’t possibly address. For example, I know that my audience for any particular talk might have many different perspectives. Shouldn’t I go do some research on that? I know I could improve the quality of the vocal track using Audition (software I already own but am just learning to use). Shouldn’t I do that?
What if my goal provided focus? I think that’s what it’s supposed to do. I’m going to pitch a speech to 3 people using what I know when I woke up this morning. Or I’m going to post a video today, using what I know when I wake up in the morning. Feels like freedom! I’ll let you know how it goes!
Danger signs
- Wouldn’t it be better if…
- I might as well…
- While I’m at it, I should…
- It won’t make any difference unless I also…
Also makes me like something about the looming Ai Age. It would be great to have something the the weather forecast for every decision. Where should I go eat? Money. Location. What we’ve liked before. Keto plus not processed plus locally grown. That sounds pretty amazing!
