We’ve all heard the Mies Van Der Rohe quote “Less is more” but I love how this quote reminds me that it is harder work to reduce and distil each design element than it is to add layers of decoration. Although they were architects and industrial designers, I draw inspiration for UX Design from Mies Van Der Rohe and his teacher Peter Behrens (who actually said “Less is More” first) because they were among the first to remove decoration from buildings and products in a conscious attempt to clarify and simplify the meaning and therefore the experience. But, as this quote reminds us, it takes more work to get to “Less.”
